Tis the Season to Give!

So i've dug way deep into my creative ability and have found myself pulling my scrapbook supplies back out for the first time since the Wilds retreat back in November.

I've decided to make the teachers gifts this year.  This is the first time in 3 years that i've created Teacher Gifts.  Hope this years teachers are not counting on the $10 gift cards that the last three sets of teachers have received.  :)

So I found these cute little wooden desk calendars and have decided to Alter them with my scrapbook supplies. So i've chosen the paper to start.  This is obviously paper that has been sitting on my desk for quite some time.  It's not something i'd put into my layouts, so dark. But dark is just what I was searching for for Jadian's male teacher.  It was perfect.  I could envision what I wanted but wouldn't know till I started if it was going to turn out the way I planned.

And it began. I started covering the holder in the black paper, then I realized that once I began sanding the wood would show.  So I took out the black paint and started painting every piece.  The black pattern paper was covering lovely over the wooden pieces.  And the sanding was definately the finishing touch.

Once complete I put a piece of white paper through the printer to get my desired font for the numerals.  I pasted the white to the back of the colored paper and started cutting.  Glued them to the blocks and then pulled out my blue and yellow paint and made a mixture to match the letters.  Stamped on the Months and voila...the finished project.  #1 of 4 teacher gift!!!  I love it!

Challenge from Charmaine

So this weeks challenge on Memories Matter was to create a layout that used Kraft paper, scraps, black pen journaling and bling.  So I went on line and searched around for what a Kraft paper layout would look like.  I don't have any Kraft paper in my stash, never ever bought a piece that I can remember.  But I checked just to be sure.  Nope...nada. So I picked out a piece of beige paper that almost resembled Kraft paper.

I found a really nice piece of pattern paper with circles (which had orange...I was on the hunt for orange pp, I didn't have much) and I found a piece of pattern paper similar in colors that was striped.  Also I grabbed a half sheet of orange and a cut up piece of black that I had.

I sat down and search all around for things that were cut out of black.  I knew that I would have to cut out my title, because my hand journaling just isn't up to par...and I love cutting.

I found it.. the Boo.  It was perfect.  Seen it on a layout on Two Peas and drew it with my black pen on my black paper and then cut it out.  Ocieanna sat with me in awe and watched every move I made.

Then I found another layout with those bats and stars... perfect!  Again with the hand cutting, just eyeing it and it turned out just like I wanted.

Journaling...where was I to put the journaling?  Well I also seen on a layout on Two Peas what looked like a chip board tree on a Halloween Layout.  So I started with my knife, no drawing this time.  It's hard to cut when your blade tip is broken...but I didn't want to mess around and stop then.

Placed down my photo, drew the black lines around the photo, Ocieanna placed on the title, placed on the circles, bats, stars and then the tree branches.  Ahh...the perfect place for the journaling, above the branches.  I hate my own journaling style, so I decided to do a creepy squiggly font, that way the messiness was a deliberate one.  :)  Complete!  Oh wait...the challenge asked for bling.  I reached to the bottom of my scrap bag and found some orange glue glitter and did every part of the circles which was orange.  ahhhh....now it's complete!

And here it is!!!!  I love it.  It's mine, scraplifted elements from Two Peas, and the awe of a little girl on my side.  Perfection!

Now to clean this mess!

Happy Halloween!!!!

Wow! That came fast and sure went fast. Halloween was here and gone before I even got one single decoration up. Ok ... that's a lie. My dad bought us this scary guy that pop out of some prison bars screaming hey let me out of here, so that was hanging in my hall way...and the scarecrow wreath which I won at our MAI party was hanging. :) So not all bad!

So the kids had a wonderful halloween. Filled with treats of course. Most of the festivities were cancelled due to the H1N1 scare this year. But we still got to go out Trick or Treating. Here are my little vampires!

Friday night however we took a little time out of our busy schedule to carve our pumpkins. The kids had a blast. Jadian did a scary pumpkin, Ocieanna did a cat pumpkin and Kadyn did a pumpkin with 6 eyes!

And then there was mommy and daddy time. Cecil played for the annual Barn Halloween Party
and that meant I got an invitation! I had a ball! And here's my costume...scary???

Who can resist the colors of fall

Captivating...these colors draw us in. Although the end of summer has come upon us, we welcome the change of season. The beauty which lies before us. Life has been keeping us busy here at the Blackmore house.

Cecil is busy at work and keeping the satellites in town up to par. I'm holding my own at work and teaching and participating in Tae Kwon Do three nights a week.

The kids are doing well. School is going extremely well this year. So far so good!

And Mr. Kadyn is busy into Preschool as well. He goes once a week this year. Hard to believe that he'll be in Kindergarten next year. He spends his days at Nanny's house exploring the cove.

Ocieanna is back in Brownies, cookie day went well. Sold all of her cookies and made a few tips along the way. Next is their halloween party tomorrow night.

Jadian desperately wanted to be back in Cubs this year, but lack of volunteers has cancelled it for this year. It's too bad, it was such a great program. So i've promised him that I will take him on outings and try to make up for what he'll miss. Our first outing was last weekend. We went on a hike to Cheeseman's Beach from the Park. We took the trail all the way out to the beach and walked back on the road. It was a long walk but not once did I hear anyone complaining...they absolutely loved it!

End of summer!

The end of summer is nearing us. Time for back to school, shopping and just getting life back in order, trying to find time to find a routein. Something I'm not so good with these days.

Summer was fun! FUN!!!! We had a faboulous many days camping, spending time with friends and family, trips hiking, to the beach, to rivers. And most important of all we went on a much needed vacation. This year we did the "Moncton" thing that everyone raved about...well much to our surprise we are now the "ravers". What an awesome time we had! After Moncton we went to Oromocto to visit with my uncle and his family and then back to PEI to visit my cousin and his family. 10 days of fun and lots of spending! But OH so worth it! Can't wait to go back!
